I have been sitting zazen for 10+ years, and I would say this is my favorite purchase so far.
If you are stupid and you remove the buckwheat from this zafu, it means you bought the wrong size. I am around 5'9", so this is good for me. The reason why I got this was more stuffing. It's better if you want to sit for around 4-8 hours in zazen or even longer (especially if you sit half or full lotus you will like this.) Maybe love is a better word than like. The only big problem is the shipping. It's $100 to ship to my country, plus exchange rate and other fees. So if you buy a zafu / zabuton set, expect to pay $300 for only a $120 purchase. Even then, it's worth it. My last set from here, I used for 6-7 years easily. I only had to get rid of it, because I was travelling. For long term use this is the best. A lot of people don't understand what they're buying, so they end up doing very stupid and impulsive things (such as removing the buckwheat.) I have sat on a lot of different zafus over the years (every type,) and buckwheat is the preferred choice.

The zafu arrived promptly and appears to be well-made. It was more firmly-stuffed with buckwheat than my former cushion 9unfortunately lost) and I removed some buckwheat to allow a somewhat softer sit (easy to do by removing a couple of stitches to allow the cushion to be un-zipped. Using it in a 5-day retreat, I found that the buckwheat compressed somewhat, and I may decide to put some back in. Overall, very happy with this product, and it served me well through 5 long days of zazen!

A friend of mine had a few of these pillows as well as some other Zafu's, and upon purchasing my own I've found them amazingly comfortable to sit on, they can help with my posture too, and they are amazing pillows. Having a genetically straight neck, the pillows elevate pressure off of my shoulders completely and are by far the most comfortable pillow I've owned, including chiropractic pillows.
While it is heavier than the average feather pillow, I dropped it onto the couch and heard a distinct "thud", there is just enough stiffness to be supportive without be uncomfortable.

I've just received my new large buckwheat zafu and, as other have already said, it really is big and heavy. It is also very well made and likely going to be very durable. Exactly what I was looking for.

Yeah, it's Heavy, man. This cushion seems well constructed with a durable cover, and really stuffed full with buckwheat. I haven't sat long enough to evaluate its compressibility over time; but, although I have not attempted to remove the lightly stitched zipper on the cover, I suspect one could remove some buckwheat hulls in there. Also, I'm a kneeler and place my zafus on edge between my extended calves. This large cushion seems to support well in this position. Only time will tell.

Attractive and well-made. The zafu arrives packed absolutely full of buckwheat, and I removed a few liters of it to get the shape I like, saving the excess buckwheat for future adjustments. I'm 6'3" and not a lightweight, but I can actually sit comfortably in a half-lotus position, something I never thought possible until now.

GOOD QUALITY AND FAST DELIVERY

This is the first Zafu I've ordered. I received it in the mail the other day and have not had a chance to fully use it, but did test it out quickly. It is much more solid and hard than I anticipated it to be, but it offers a lot of support for your hips and back. It is extremely comfortable.

A birthday present for my sister, who just adores it . .

I'm new to zazen and thus to zafus, so I didn't quite know what to expect. Shipping was very quick. The zafu is constructed well, covered with a soft but strong fabric. A handle along the perimeter conceals a zipper and ZafuStore.com label. The zafu came completely stuffed with buckwheat hulls to the point that it had almost no give at all when I first sat on it. This, combined with its rather tall height, made for an uncomfortable first sitting experience. I've since removed quite a bit of filling and I now have a comfortable seat that molds itself to my body. I've saved the extra buckwheat hulls in case they are needed after a break-in period. All in all, I'm happy with my purchase and with ZafuStore.com.
